Did jacks parents know he was gay
At first i found it odd that Jack's father divulged so much information to Ennis, but what i took from it was that he at least in part blamed Ennis for his son's death (by proxy maybe but still saw him. This vision is Ennis's fear manifesting itself. Ennis seems to realize that he and Jack may have been happy, if only he hadn't been so cowardly.
At Jack's parents' house, Jack's father denies Ennis the ashes, but the distraught cowboy is. Brokeback Mountain should be renamed Heartbroke Mountain after its heart wrenching ending. For the first time in their relationship, Ennis experiences empathy for Jack. The poor, faded walls are matched by Jack's poor, faded parents.
At the end of Brokeback Mountain Ennis visits Jack's parents after he learns of Jack's death. Jack's father tells Ennis about Jack's plans that he had before he died. The Twist house is sad, dull, and entirely devoid of color. As Lureen talks, Ennis imagines Jack being beaten to death with a tire iron.
Lureen, Jack's wife, tells Ennis on the phone that Jack was changing a tire when it exploded and killed him. But Jack’s father is vulgar, and we learn that the old sack of meat is homophobic. He finally tries to understand the world from Jack's point of view. Jack was probably the victim of a hate crime.
Jack’s mother is kind to him, but his father is cruel, insinuating that he knew Ennis and Jack were lovers. It's easy to see how this could escalate: these men are looking at Jack with pure hatred. The two soon end the call, and Ennis plans to visit Jack's parents to see about the ashes.
However, at one point the two conclude that they simply wouldn’t be able to be together. I think it's clear they both knew Jack was gay and had a relationship with Ennis and didn't like it but still accepted it (the mother more so). Jack realizes that he and Ennis will never be together, because Ennis is too afraid to live openly.
He refuses to give Ennis the other half of the ashes, saying that they will be buried in an ancestral burial ground. Ennis attempts to recover Jack's ashes from his parents. He learns that Jack's dad is a homophobe, like his own dad was. The movie makes no attempt to tell us that Ennis is wrong, so his fear is likely true.
Jack could hit on the wrong person, and the man and his friends could beat Jack to death. Later, Ennis attempts to reconnect, but discovers Jack is dead. Also, after Ennis and Jack's big fight, it seems that Jack was planning on moving on with another man. For what it's worth, I think Jack's parents had some idea that their son may have been gay and I think his mum knew that Ennis was the person Jack loved after Ennis found the shirts and brought them back down the stairs.
The decision was made because of Ennis’ dad, who Ennis recalls hurting a homosexual for witnessing them in the act. Ennis and Jack would occasionally meet one another while they were outdoors fishing together. Knowing Jack, it might be some pretend place where bluebirds sing and there's a whiskey spring.
In the final part of the movie, Ennis tries to get Jack’s ashes from his parents, preparing to scatter them on Brokeback Mountain. Plus, the film foreshadows Jack's death by murder in an earlier bar scene—Jack hits on a dude, and the cowboy leaves to talk to his friends in the corner.
When Ennis says that Brokeback is where he and Jack met, Lureen realizes that her dead husband was having an affair with Ennis this whole time, but we don't explore her feelings beyond the initial revelation. Lureen tells Ennis Jack wanted his ashes scattered on Brokeback Mountain, showing that Jack loved Ennis, despite Ennis's difficult nature.
Inside Jack's childhood bedroom, Ennis opens the window, and looks at Jack's view. Lureen doesn't know about Brokeback Mountain:. Jack's mom welcomes Ennis to Jack's room. Jack would have just been happy in a relationship with the man he loved, but in midth Century Wyoming, gay rights was a dream as seemingly unattainable as living in a Disney movie.
Ennis is deeply afraid of being discovered as gay and being attacked.
